AOL IM Service is down for the second time this week!

In the past 2 weeks, AOL IM has been down 4 times...   At exactly 12:03:47 PM Mountain Daylight Time on April 05, 2001, AOL's IM Service is unavailable. Affecting each and every AOL IM User globally, each and every one of AOL's IM Servers were down.

  This is the 4th outage of AOL's IM Service in the past 2 weeks, and the second such outage this week. The AOL IM Service went down again, at the exact same time as the previous day this week, Tuesday.

  AOL declined to comment on the previous 3 outages, but issued the following statement this time around:

"the problem was the direct result of a major regional power failure in Northern Virginia," said Nicolas Graham, a spokesman for Dulles, Va.-based AOL.

  It is odd however that with so many outages that AOL would blame the most recent on a power outage, especially considering that this outage happened according to us at exactly the same time as Tuesday. The odds of a power outage happening at the same time on 2 different days in the same week lends one to believe AOL is hiding something about their outages.

  On another note, it seems Microsofts' MSN Messenger has caught up to AOL IM in numbers of active users, and possibly surpassed AOL with 29.5 Million active users of MSN Messenger according to a recent traffic study by Media Metrix.

  Whether or not these outages of AOL's IM Service will continue, 1 thing is sure, if it does it is going to start to look really bad for AOL.
