priced lower than the XBOX, and set to undercut SONY's attempts to undercut Nintendo, Nintendo strikes a blow.
Nintendo said it wouldn't announce pricing and availability until their May 24th financial meeting, but instead they announced only the pricing for their GameCube video game system today at $199 US dollars.

Nintendo commented, "The price point of $200 is the mass-market price point," Nintendo vice president of marketing George Harrison said of Monday's announcement. "That's the price point where you can experience some accelerated sales.", George went on to say..."Nintendo has no intention to lose much, if any, money on the sale of hardware."

This is in contrast to Microsoft and SONY who can afford to sale their systems at a loss, George clearly said later on that Nintendo cannot afford to do this..."not in a position to offset losses on other divisions in the way Sony or Microsoft might,"

Nintendo is in fact, as a company not doing so well financially. The financial meeting this Thursday will explain their recent company restructuring plans, and their financial outlooks for the coming years as well as their production volume for both the GameBoy Advance and GameCube launches.

SONY plans on dropping the price of their Playstation 2 this holiday season, and Microsoft is selling the XBOX at $299 November 8th despite it's hardware worth is much more.
