V90 Dial Up Modems are still widely used today, and the new V92 Modem Standard should be in use until year 2004. Dial Up Modem Users represent approximately 95% of the internet population, with still 75-80% in 2004.
Up until now, V90 has been the standard and has actually limited your download speed to 53KilobitsPerSecond, and upstream at 33Kbps...not 56Kbps. Now with the new V92 Dial Up Modems, users have 48Kbps Upstream and better 53Kbps downstream. V92 has some other benefits. Along with a substantial gain in upstream speed, this new standard sports shorter connection times, the ability to put a data transfer on hold for a voice call, and overall quicker use of the 53Kbps Downstream with enhanced use of the TCP/IP (Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol). All this techno jargon spells relief for the majority of internet users in the world today. The question is, how many ISPS will upgrade their networks fastest to allow all you new V92 users to benefit from the New Technology. The answer is - sooner than later.
