Last Thursday, August 9th 2001, the FBI seized $10.5 million in counterfeit Microsoft software and arrested four men who allegedly smuggled several different versions of fake software products from Asia and sold them at deep discounts. A fifth man is still at large the FBI said.

The Asian group is suspected to have illegally stolen and then smuggled the Microsoft Software from a Microsoft CD Duplication manufacturing plant in Asia. The sophistication of the Pirates were demonstrated in their attempt to go as far as reproducing, in sticker form, Microsoft's new anti-piracy hologram.

"They were a very sophisticated group," said Richard LaMagna, Microsoft's senior manager of worldwide piracy enforcement.

The group was apparently distributing massive ammounts of pirated Microsoft Software, including Windows Millennium Editon, and Office XP. The value of the counterfeit software was $10.5 million.

According to published reports, the FBI on Thursday arrested Chien Sim Cheh, also known as Ted Chien; Hung Gia Huynh, also known as Raymond Wong; Henry Chi Wong and Eddy Chun Yao King. A fifth man, Cheuk Hong Wong, remains at large. Redmond, Wash.-based Microsoft had worked with the FBI on the case for more than a year, LaMagna said.
